SCRATCHED was our inspiration, yes. Portugal has a Scratch portal of its own since 2009 and we decided it was time to share Scratch with Schools and educators. That is how EduScratch was born!

As an educator and tech enthusiast, I spent the last four years teaching at Arlington Public Schools. Last year, I incorporated Scratch into the curriculum of my 6th grade computer class. I wrote an article about this project, which was recently published in Tech Directions. The article includes tips for educators who are new to using Scratch: http://www.omagdigital.com/publication/?i=240376&pre=1&p=18

Teacher. My first passion for learning was designing and programming computer systems, now I am passionate about finding creative ways to integrate coding and pedagogy for my students.

http://eduscratch.dge.mec.pt/ Developed by: ICT Competence Centre (Centro de Competência TIC), School of Education, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (Escola Superior de Educação, Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal) Project coordinators: Miguel Figueiredo and Teresa Marques Objectives: -to create a community of practitioners around the educational use of Scratch; -to encourage students to have a central role in using the tool and in designing and developing their own projects. The project revolves around three axes, or dimensions: Sharing: this is done through an online portal http://eduscratch.dge.mec.pt/. Its aims are to cull and disseminate information on the educational use of Scratch, to share tutorials and manuals created specifically for the community, to translate relevant documents, to share examples of good practice and to suggest reading materials of a more theoretical nature on the educational potential behind Scratch. Continuing Professional Development: this dimension involves training teachers both formally and informally through workshops and accredited training courses. It comprises K-12 teachers teaching all subjects, with a special focus on Mathematics. Support: the forum of the EduScratch community is pivotal here (see Sharing above); however, support is also delivered on site, by working with teachers and students in the classroom while they are actually using Scratch.
