Gyanada Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides better educational and schooling opportunities to girls coming from financially marginalized communities in India. Our approach is two-fold, Gyanada Scholars provides need-based scholarships to financially disadvantaged girls across four cities in India. Gyanada Labs- focuses on providing functional and people’s skills through application based learning programs. The Binary Story – is one of our new initiatives and we are proud to introduce our girls to a skill which has immense interest and potential. Understanding basic computer skills and programming encourages logic and systematic reasoning, communicating clearly creative thinking and working collaboratively We have completed a 6-month pilot session on Scratch from January to June 2017. Twelve street girls learned to code on Scratch and are now capable of following scripts and creating videos on Scratch. The idea is to make this coding program a year long program with intensive learning sessions for 3 months, break for 2 months for the girls to practice on their own with the computers and then slowly get trained in advanced course. Here is a link that talks about the output of the pilot program https://youtu.be/1kY6UHOoXy8
