In this webinar, Karen Brennan introduces Scratch and helps participants build their first Scratch project.

Next, the group built a beach-themed Scratch project together. With suggestions from other webinar participants, Karen demonstrated different features in Scratch including:

  • Deleting a sprite
  • Adding a surprise sprite
  • Adding a sprite from the Scratch library
  • Drawing a sprite in the paint editor
  • Adding a background
  • Say block
  • Connecting blocks
  • Making the project interactive
  • Adding a sound
  • Making something happen at the same time
  • Deleting blocks
  • Wait block
  • Initializing a sprite
  • Broadcast/When I receive function

You can view the Scratch project created during the webinar and presentation slides below. If you decide to continue, remix, or create your own first Scratch project, we'd love to see them! Please add them to the My First Scratch Project gallery.
