Vector Scratch Blocks

In September 2014 Computing will be a new curriculum subject and I wanted to make some resources that could be used to support Scratch

After seeing these hands-on blocks I thought it would be great if anyone could make their own.  So I set about creating some vector versions of the standard Scratch blocks that could be scaled to any size required.  As I created them I also thought how useful it would be if Teachers could use them in other ways, for example, displays, PowerPoints and on Interactive Whiteboards.

With this in mine the Scratch Block Package currently contains 66 blocks in the following formats:

  • SVG – Scalable Vector Graphics.
  • EMF – Vectors for use in Microsoft Office products.
  • PNG – High resolution raster images with transparency.
  • SMART Gallery Package – Vectors for use with SMART Notebook.

I hope these are of use to the education community.  Blocks currently missing (sensing and operators) will be added in the near future.

Thanks for creating these. I have used them over the years. Any plans to create new vector blocks for Scratch 3.0?

These are wonderful! I use them with my students to highlight blocks that may be useful in their projects. I'd like to get all of the categories to keep everything consistent. Is it possible to share the sensing and operators blocks? Thanks so much in advance :)

Thanks for this great effort, Paul!! Also for showing scripts in Scratch projects, vector graphic blocks are highly desirable. I'd need them in German, though, and others may need them in French, Spanisch,... That's why I was thinking whether there could be a solution directly in the Scratch editor.

Here's what I mean: Switching the editor to my language, and pressing the + button in the script area a number of times gives me big crisp-looking scripts in my language; so it appears that the editor internally has a vector graphic representation of the scripts. If only that representation could be exported in svg format, say...
