Scratch a poem

How to introduce poetry to students using Scratch.

This is a suggestion for teachers who want to get their students interested in poetry.

1. Divide the students into groups.

2. Discuss a topic of interest for example - love, movies, pets, etc

3. Give the students half an hour to write a poem of say 8-10 lines.

4. If possible, make it humorous.

5. Then ask them to translate their poem into a Scratch project whereby they have to illustrate the poem and also record a reading of the poem. Each student has to read the poem and the group selects the best rendition for their project.

6. Share. View the projects as a class and comment on the topics presented.

7. Reflection

I have included the links to my poems to illustrate how this can be done. Enjoy.
