I just found this app. I will be teaching Scratch in about 2 1/2 weeks to high school students in an introductory course. I will be doing part of the course in scratch and then part with Alice. I'm good with using Alice, but have had no experience teaching Scratch. It is now the end of summer and I hope that this app will help me. I'm in information overload right now.

Thank you to everyone who has downloaded Start Scratch over the past week! We have received some great feedback and are busy working on our next free update. If you would like something added to the app, add a comment to this page and we will do what we can to include it.

If you enjoy the app, would you mind taking 30 seconds to give the app a 5-star review on Apple's App Store? It would be much appreciated! You can post a review by visiting the app on the App Store and clicking 'Ratings and Reviews'. You can also visit http://AppStore.com/SeasoftComputing/StartScratch to review the app using iTunes on your computer.

Thank you again!

Hi,

I found an error in one of the quizzes. In the "Play Note for "sound block quiz, the correct answer to the question "Which block produces the highest pitch?" should be "play note 67 for 0.5 beats." You currently have the correct block set to "play note 60 for 0.5 beats."

Best wishes,

Alex

Hello,

Thank you very much for this tutorial, it really helps!

I was just starting with scratch when I found it (lucky me), and it makes a good guide for a beginner.

I particurlaly enjoyed the quizzes on the blocks. It really helps to make sure you understand how the blocks really work, in addition to the tutorials.

Here some feedback on how you could improve it :

- mark each tuto/ each block once tuto + quizz is completed, so you know where you stand and where to resume.

- in block section, enable to go to next or previous block without having to go back to block menu

I haven't done all the tuto yet, and they're good. Only I had I was a little frustrated by the "moving sprites" one because I couldn't understand clearly the effect of the "turn clockwise by 15 degrees" depending on its position in the program. I think I'll try with adding a "wait 1s" so I can see the effect.

Hope this helps!

I plan to start giving classes based on scratch next fall, and I think your app would help. Do you have plans to translate it in French? Coul I help with that?

Best regards,

Claude

 Hello Claude,

Thank you for your comments. Your ideas are great and we will include them in our next update.

Without the "turn clockwise by 15 degrees" block, the sprite will only bounce between the left and right walls. You need to rotate the sprite at the beginning so it can bounce all around the stage. I agree the tutorial does not really explain this so we will update that as well.

We don't have plans to translate the app yet, but I think its a great idea. The more people who can use the app the better!

Kind regards,

Andrew
