OK, I heard someone, Peter, amybe. saying scrolling backgrounds were tough... so how do we do it?

Not too tough, I don't think. It depends on exactly what you need. Ie.. scrolling one direction, two, four, etc. I have a project that uses an infinitely scrolling background. It is based on a method commonly referred to as "scrollx."
